application requirements
- Registered Nurse with at least three years' post registration and current experience in an acute area such as Accident & Emergency Units. Consideration may be given to those with experience in adult Intensive Care or Cardiac Care
- Current registration with the South African Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Possession of a valid accredited ACLS certificate prior to joining a ship
- Successful candidates will be required to pass a company approved physical examination
- Eligible for issue of a United States C1/D Visa
- Good IT skills, and ability to manipulate modern Windows-based software
- Fluency in English
- Ability to prioritise efficiently in fast-paced environment, deliver required results within pre-established budgets, and meet established deadlines
- Possess excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- Self motivated and able to practice autonomously in addition to being an effective team member
- Commitment to stay with the company for at least one year and a desire to progress to rank of In Charge Nurse
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Nurses provide a broad range of medical care in modern, well-equipped shipboard medical centers. They report to the Senior Nurse and work closely with a team of Doctors, Nurses, and Paramedics. Their responsibilities include:
- Provide general and emergency medical care in an outpatient/inpatient or critical care setting
- First responders for emergency calls; triage and treat by phone or on-scene; and safely transfer patients.
- Assess patients and provide treatment and advice for specific conditions.
- Perform administrative tasks under the supervision of the Senior Nurse, including patient billing
- Perform equipment checks
- Pharmacy dispensing and supplies inventory management.
- Participate in drills, inspections, and training
- Perform X-rays
- Perform laboratory tests
- Provide outstanding customer service to a diverse patient population
