  • ​At least three years of post graduate experience (Internship years qualify)
  • At least 6 months of current Emergency Medicine experience & Dip PEC qualification
  • Additional experience in Private A&E units (either 6 months full-time, or 30 GP or A&E locum sessions, if still working full-time in a state A&E unit
  • Current registration with the HPCSA
  • Possession of a valid accredited ACLS certificate prior to joining a ship
  • Additional training, like Advanced Airway Management, ICU & ECG courses, ATLS and PALS are preferred
  • ePOCUS experience and certification is strongly recommended
  • Successful candidates will be required to pass a company approved physical examination
  • Eligible for issue of a United States C1D Visa
  • Good computer skills and experience with electronic health record systems
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, ability to practice autonomously
  • Strong management skills
  • Commitment to complete at least a one year contract, which will include 4 months on board, alternated by 6 - 8 weeks' leave

position description


​Doctors provide a broad range of medical care in modern, well-equipped ship medical centers. They report to the Senior Doctor and work closely as a team with Nurses and Paramedics. Their responsibilities include:
  • Provide general and emergency medicine care in an outpatient/inpatient or critical care setting
  • Provide timely, evidence-based care, including treatment plans
  • Perform clinical procedures
  • Coordinate patient referrals, including telemedicine consultations and medevacs
  • Manage crew health and wellness programs
  • Follow communicable disease prevention and control procedures
  • Perform imaging, including x-rays and point of care ultrasound (POCUS)
  • Perform laboratory tests
  • Perform administrative tasks, including financial controls within the medical center
  • Participate in drills, inspections, and training
  • Provide outstanding customer service to a diverse patient population
